What is BSU (Home Savings Scheme for Young People)?

Home savings for young people, also known as BSU (Home Savings Scheme for Young People), is a savings scheme for home purchases for those under 34 years of age. With BSU you receive our best savings rate and up to NOK 2 750 in tax relief each year. The funds are locked for home-related purchases such as property or renovation.

BSU rules for 2025

When you save in BSU (Home Savings Scheme for Young People), there are some rules that are useful to be aware of:

  • Save in BSU (Home Savings Scheme for Young People) up to and including the year you turn 33 years old
  • You receive a 10% tax deduction on the money you deposit each year, up to a maximum of NOK 2 750
  • Save up to NOK 27 500 per year and a total of NOK 300 000
  • To receive the tax deduction, you must have taxable income and not own your own home.

Assumptions: BSU interest rate of 6.1% and annual savings of 27 500 deposited on 01.01 each year. You must earn above the tax-free allowance threshold and qualify for the 10% tax deduction. Tax on interest income is not taken into account.
