More Share Trading Than Ever in March
Never before has higher trading been recorded on the bank's share trading platform. DNB's investors traded shares worth NOK 35 billion and were net sellers to the value of NOK 7.1 billion.
The previous record for share trading among DNB's retail customers was set in March 2022, shortly after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. At that time, shares worth around NOK 26 billion were traded. This year's March figures therefore represent a significant jump, which must be seen in light of increased geopolitical unrest in the Middle East. Energy shares dominated trading, and many investors took advantage of the price increase to sell down their positions. The oil share Equinor was clearly the most traded last month, with nearly 34,300 trades and a net sale of NOK 4.8 billion.
– This does not look like panic. Investors are rather selling down shares that have had very strong performance. Equinor has delivered a 74 per cent rate of return year to date and was the most net-sold share in March, says Camilla Vik, investment economist at DNB.
