What is employer's liability insurance?

Employer's liability insurance comprises policies that businesses can offer their employees to provide financial peace of mind in the event of accidents, illness or death.

There are statutory insurance policies and supplementary insurance policies that provide peace of mind for employees — and for the employer.

Occupational injury insurance is mandatory by law and covers injuries or illnesses that employees may sustain during working hours. This includes both physical and psychological injuries, and provides entitlement to compensation for permanent incapacity for work, permanent medical disability, necessary expenses for medical treatment, as well as loss of income.

In addition, you can choose to purchase supplementary insurance, such as:

  • Health insurance
  • Travel insurance
  • Life insurance - compensation in the event of death
  • Leisure accident insurance

Employee insurance contributes to increased peace of mind for employees, better monitoring during illness and makes you a more attractive employer.

Insurance for start-ups

When you start a new business, there’s a lot to do and insurance is not necessarily the first thing on the list.

New business – which insurance?

Many entrepreneurs may never have thought about the risks that actually exist, or the type of insurance that may be necessary.

At the same time, start-ups are often even more vulnerable. You may need a room, a car, specialised equipment or just a customer.

When the accident occurs

An accident, damage or a data breach can have major consequences: stopping operations, financial losses or, in the worst case, bankruptcy.

You also have a responsibility to third parties – like customers, visitors and others’ property.

Security with the right insurance

With the right non-life insurance, you protect your operations, finances and reputation. It gives you the peace of mind to build the business further, even when something unforeseen happens.

Statutory insurance

Some insurance policies you must have, depending on the type of business you run or whether you have employees.

Workers’ compensation insurance

All employers with employees must take out occupational injury insurance. This insurance is obligatory in accordance with the Occupational Injury Insurance Act.

Mandatory occupational pension (scheme)

OTP is a pension scheme for the employees in your company. As an employer, you must pay at least 2 per cent of the salary for pension savings.
